Shower System

Contrary to popular belief, tiles and grout joints are not inherently waterproof, and must be installed in conjunction with a waterproofing system that effectively manages moisture and prevents mold growth. The Schluter®-Shower System is an integrated family of products that together form a fully bonded, watertight assembly for tiled showers. The Schluter®-Shower System eliminates the risk of failures due to water and vapor penetration and dramatically reduces total installation time. From drains to shower benches to waterproofing pipe seals, Schluter®-Systems offers everything you need to ensure a dependable and watertight installation.

Drains

The classically-inspired Schluter®-KERDI-DRAIN is offered in a variety of grate finishes and accommodates a wide range of tile thicknesses. KERDI-DRAIN features an integrated bonding flange to which the KERDI waterproofing membrane is adhered and forms a waterproof connection at the top of the tile assembly.

Prefer something a little more luxurious? The Schluter®-KERDI-LINE low-profile linear drain takes your tiled shower to the next level—and is the ideal drain for curb less bathrooms. KERDI-LINE is available with several grate designs, including a frameless tile able covering support, which virtually disappears in the field tile. KERDI-LINE can be installed adjacent to walls or at intermediate locations in showers, steam rooms, wet rooms, and other applications that require drainage.

Membranes

Schluter®-Systems provides the solutions to common tile installation challenges, including effective waterproofing and uncoupling membranes. Ceramic and stone tiles are beautiful, practical, and sustainable; however, they are not inherently waterproof, nor are they resistant to cracking and breaking. Installed beneath tiled floors, Schluter®-DITRA uses an innovative uncoupling technology that prevents cracked tile and grout while providing effective waterproofing. Schluter®-KERDI is a sheet-applied waterproofing and vapor-retardant membrane that is installed behind the tiles in showers, bathtub surrounds, and other wet areas. Put simply, Schluter® membranes uphold the integrity of tile and help protect the investment of your installation.

Schluter®-KERDI is a pliable sheet-applied waterproofing membrane and vapor-retarder designed for the direct application of tile. KERDI is ideal for use in tiled showers, bathtub surrounds, residential steam showers, and other tile applications in wet areas.

  • Sheet-applied polyethylene waterproofing membrane and vapor retarder
  • Eliminates water damage which can lead to mold and mildew
  • Ideal for waterproofing in conjunction with tiled surfaces on walls and floors

Schluter®-KERDI-BOARD Schluter®-KERDI-BOARD is a multifunctional tile substrate and building panel, which can also be in bonded waterproofing assemblies with tile.

  • Fosters creativity in the construction of bonded waterproofing assemblies to be tiled
  • Replaces other suitable solid backing panels (i.e. gypsum board, cement backer board)
  • Even, impact-resistant, and rigid
  • Waterproof, thermally insulating and dimensionally stable
  • Contains no cement or fiberglass for a dust-free installation
  • Extruded polystyrene foam panel

Uncoupling (DITRA)

Tile has been successfully installed for thousands of years by incorporating an uncoupling layer, or forgiving shear interface, within the tile assembly. Schluter®-DITRA membranes provide uncoupling through free space, which allows for in-plane movement that effectively neutralizes the differential movement stresses between the substrate and the tile, thus eliminating the major cause of cracking and delaminating of the tiled surface.

Schluter®-DITRA and DITRA-XL are specifically designed for ceramic and stone tile installations. DITRA and DITRA-XL provide uncoupling to prevent cracked tile and grout. Made of polyethylene, DITRA and DITRA-XL serve as a waterproofing layer that protects moisture-sensitive substrates, such as plywood/OSB. Free-space on the underside of the matting provides a route for excess moisture and vapor to prevent damage to the tile layer above. DITRA and DITRA-XL perform all these functions while still providing adequate support/load distribution for the tile covering.

  • Provides uncoupling, waterproofing, vapor management, and heavy load distribution to ensure the durability and integrity of tile installations
  • Can be installed on top of concrete, plywood, OSB, gypsum, existing vinyl floors, structural planks, sub-floors, and radiant heated floors

Schluter®-DITRA-HEAT integrates customizable, comfortable electric floor warming with the functions associated with DITRA: uncoupling, waterproofing, vapor management, and support to ensure a long-lasting installation.
